Before there was a world famous USA Olympian, Billy Mills and before there was a Kansas University long distant running record holder, Billy Mills: Larry and I witnessed this young man’s future greatness as a winner in the Haskell Indian High School track and field games. Little did we know that someday we would again hear his name nationally and actually get to see this great American athlete participate in the Kansas Relays? Larry loved sports athletes and especially local heroes.
Billy Mills lived by a simple Indian code:
1. Make your words clear.
2. Don’t take things personally.
3. Don’t assume anything.
4. Always do your best.
In other words, “The Golden Rule”?
“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”
